# LCRI Research Portfolio

The LCRI research portfolio is focused on the role of AECs in supporting energy value chain approaches to decarbonizing end use applications. The portfolio includes research in production, storage and delivery, and end use applications of AECs, and also addresses integration of energy systems and safety and environmental aspects of AEC use across the entire value chain.

As the energy economy continues to transition to a low-carbon future, there will be many challenges with achieving deep carbon reductions and ultimately establishing a NZE economy by 2050. The LCRI is targeting technologies that will be commercially deployed beyond 2030 to support this major energy transformation, consistent with consumer requirements, while maintaining safe, affordable, reliable, and environmentally responsible standards. The LCRI intends to develop research projects to enable multiple options and pathways to achieve ambitious climate goals.

The preliminary research plans presented in the following sections were developed by the LCRI research teams in consultation with LCRI sponsors and other research organizations and through assessments of global activities and projects. The Integrated Energy System Analysis TSC is leading efforts to develop an energy-economy model that will help identify key areas of value for low-carbon solutions within the context of the overall integrated energy system. Modeling and analysis of various scenarios is underway with results planned for July 2021. These results will be incorporated into the TSCs as another input for prioritizing LCRI research efforts.
